Shona is currently studying for a Masters in Creative Practice at Unitec. Her work is situated outside the traditional boundaries of photography in the domain of experimental image-making. Shona’s series, ‘Experiments in the Transient’, is informed by the oceanic and geologic forces that shape the evolutionary landscape of the Mahia Peninsula. Using the properties of the photographic c-print and alchemical processes stimulated within a studio laboratory, her compositions involve elements such as rock, water and organic plant matter in a co-authoring process that reveals a rich and layered narrative to the powerful, multidimensional and, often hidden, qualities of the natural systems that surround us. The initial reproducible photograph of the landscape morphs into a unique, sculptural artefact. Shona has exhibited in several recent group exhibitions and is currently preparing for her first solo exhibition at the end of this year.
